Design a mobile robot navigation system based on FPGA

Author(s): Hassoon Salman Fahama

Abstract: Controlling robot movement is a promising research path due to the great services it provides in both civil and military aspects. Researchers have continued presenting ideas and proposals during the past decades and conducting continuous improvement processes. Researchers have continued to present their creative ideas to develop and improve performance and reduce problems related to robot movement. The Matching between the artificial neural network (ANN) and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) provides a promising future for improving robot motion control because of the flexibility and efficiency of the neural network accompanied by the FPGA's response speed. This paper uses a robot motion control method based on feed-forward artificial intelligence networks and the FPGA. ANN presents the software controller built inside the FPGA; it detects the obstacle by IR sensors and the Issue orders for DC motor movement. The results show the ANN-FPGA combination's ability to provide accurate real-time movement.
